Phase 3 details

Description

Okay so there are a few things I would like to touch on before we go into this lesson, one being that for DEMONSTRATIVE purposes I have haven’t used an eraser in order to keep the visible lines from the last two steps. (Sorry guys on the left and right… you both needed a little help.) Secondly is that this is a step that you do not want to many hard lines as you probably don’t want them to be naked either. (I did just so that the details show up more clearly… and they’re not getting cloths so…) Finally, really the muscle work is up to your personal style. Do you want comic style where there’s on muscles where muscles don’t exist? Do you want hardly any muscles? I don't know. That’s up to you. HOWEVER I do advise you do look at some muscle anatomy as it will help you. Finally I know I said these guys weren’t going to be body builders but they kind of ended up being body builders anyways… What do you want from me, I wasn’t using an eraser!!

So at this point you SHOULD have the layout of your character set up in a manner that you like. Now we need to detail the character to make them look alive. Now I KNOW what you’re thinking, “Imma gonna thowz clothes on themz!!” No! Bad! You need to work out the body build first. That way when you do put clothes on them you know from where the fabric will hang/stretch. But clothes are a different lesson entirely.

Now as I have mentioned before how you want to approach the muscles is mostly up to your own personal style, and how bulky the character is. Just remember to work light because you will be using your eraser after this step.

The only thing I REALLY must talk about at this point is the face. When detailing the face you need to remember that the more hard lines you put on the face, the more features will be defines. HOWEVER with those lines will come the appearance of age. If you look at the face on guy on the left, he looks like he could be in his 30-40’s. However the guy on the right has a lot less lines and as a result looks a lot younger. To make a face appear to be the age you want it’s going to be a careful combination of shading and line work. However shading and lighting is another lesson all together as well, however do feel free to look up references of lighting on faces and the like, as it will help get the feel of the subject.

That wraps up this little lesson plan. If you guys like it I’ll do one for females as well.

:giggle: Would I get into trouble if I do ask one for females?

Though mostly I'm only curious how to begin their frame. The men started with a triangle for their "chest", would a woman's start with a couple circles instead?
